Since ancient times, about 80% of individuals use traditional medicine, which has chemical compounds derived from medicinal plants. According to WHO, more than 80% of the world’s population rely on plant based product to meet their healthcare needs. Terminalia arjuna and Glycyrrhiza glabra is an ayurvedic plant with medicinal value. The aim of study was to analyze the effect of different drying methods i.e. oven, sun, microwave and freeze dried on the phytochemicals of stem bark extract of Terminalia arjuna and ischolar_main extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra. The Phytochemicals screening revealed the presence of alkaloid, saponins, triterpenoids, and phytosterols in ischolar_main extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra and stem bark extract of Terminalia arjuna. While the carbohydrate test was found to be positive only in the ischolar_main extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra.Keywords

In this study the effect of four different drying techniques such as sun drying, oven drying, microwave drying and freeze drying of Terminalia arjuna bark have been studied. The effectiveness of different drying technique was measured in terms of phytochemical screening, total phenol, flavonoid, alkaloid and protein content. The antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity were also determined. In phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloid, triterpenoid, saponins, glycosides and phytosterols in different dried T. arjuna stem bark extract. The phenol, flavonoid, alkaloid and protein content were highest in freeze dried extract. Then it was followed by microwave, oven and sun dried extract. The antimicrobial activity and antioxidant activity were also found maximum in freeze dried T. arjuna stem bark. Among all sun drying was found most detrimental drying technique for bioactive components of T. arjuna stem bark and freeze drying was best for bioactive components of T. arjuna stem bark.Keywords
